That means she has held her position for the past 65 years, which is a lifetime for some people.
In comparison, the current Queen of Bhutan, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck is just 27-years-old.
This makes her the world’s youngest queen and she is the Internet’s new royal obsession.
Just check out her Instagram profile.
She came to power in 2011 when she married the king of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, who has been given the awesome moniker of “Dragon King.”
Perhaps awkwardly, he dated his current wife’s cousin while studying at Oxford but everything seems calm between them about it.
Of his wife, report the King as saying:
I have been waiting for quite some time to get married.
But it doesn’t matter when you get married as long as it is to the right person.
I am certain I am married to the right person.
They had their first child, Jigme Namygyel Wangchuck in February 2016 and to be honest he’s already giving Prince George a run for his money in the Royal Baby cuteness stakes.
Beyond her personal life, Jetsun is said to be an art lover, which she gained an appreciation of while studying in India.
There she specialised in a variety of subjects including English, history, economics, geography and art.
She eventually went on to study Psychology and Art History at London’s Regent’s University.
Jetsun is also a noted conservationist, environmentalist and advocate for disabled people, which makes us like her even more.
In April 2016, she and her husband met Prince William and Kate Middleton and it was a glorious sight to behold.
Whilst everyone is rightfully fawning over Prince Harry and his new fiancée Meghan Markle, spare a thought for Bhutan’s royal couple because their Instagram game is strong.
