The person responsible for the suspension of Donald Trump’s Twitter account for 11 minutes on November 2nd revealed his identity in a video interview with Techcrunch. He is no other person that Bahtiyar Duysak, a German in his twenties and also a former employee of Twitter.
Bahtiyar Duysak, a young German in his twenties, claims to be responsible for the temporary suspension of the US president’s @realdonaldtrump twitter account. While referring to “an error”, he confirmed that November 2 was the “last day” of his fixed-term contract. At the time, he was “at the headquarters of Twitter in San Francisco, California,” he says.
The temporary deactivation was a strong signal that Twitter, which has made extraordinary efforts with politicians and world leaders for its service, has not taken draconian measures to protect their accounts.
Bahtiyar Duysak explains that towards the end of his last day of work, an alert indicating an indefinite violation committed by Donald Trump’s account came to him. He then initiated the deactivation procedure. “An error” according to him, especially since he did not think that Trump’s account would actually be disabled.
In my opinion, it was really a mistake and if I’m involved in that, I really apologize if I hurt someone. I did not do anything on purpose but as I said, I had trouble in America and I was tired sometimes and everyone can make mistakes.
I did not hack anyone. I did not do anything that I was not allowed to do … I did not commit any crime.
Paradoxically, while his name had not been leaked so far, Bahtiyar Duysak said he revealed his identity to “be able to continue living a normal life,” claiming to have been forced to delete “many friends, photos” on social networks to try to escape the journalists who were trying to discover his identity.
Referring to the reason he decided to run today, Bahtiyar claims that he simply wants the media to backtrack to investigate the responsibilities.
I just want to continue an ordinary life. I had to delete hundreds of friends because the journalists are harassing me, I just want to continue an ordinary life.
